Race Report

Kloof Nek Ckassic 2010

This year's race was held on Sunday, 31st January 2010 and turned out to be another successful race. A record number of entries was achieved and two course records were broken. The weather was perfect and RE/MAX Living once again stepped up to the plate and sponsored the event. Each finisher received a medal and spot prizes were handed out at the prize giving.

The course has not changed over the years, starting at Camps Bay High School and winding up Kloof Road to the traffic circle and then along Table Mountain Road, passing the lower cableway station, to the turnaround point and then back down to the traffic circle before heading up Signal Hill Road to the turnaround point at the top of Signal Hill. From here its is virtually all downhill to the finish, via Kloof Road, at Camps Bay High School. This is a tough course, however the scenery certainly makes up for the extra effort.

Cash prizes were awarded to the various category winners. The course record was broken by Sibusiso Mbingeleli (Mr Price WP) in an incredible time of 1:09:55 and the veterans ladies course record was broken by Joanna Thomas (VOB) in 1:29:26. Well done to both runners! Food and beverages were available for sale on the field and tog bag security facilities were provided.

Permanent numbers were awarded to a number of runners who had completed five Kloof Nek Classic races. Three runners, who have run the race every year since its inception, completed their fifteenth run. They are: Uwe Strack (VOB), Tony Cronje (VOB) and Allan Margolin (Foresters) - many thanks for your support and dedication to our race.

Details for the 2011 Kloof Nek Classic will be on this website once Western Province Athletics has approved the 2011 racing calendar. Flyers will be distributed at races before the end of December 2010.
